people seem to say to stay away from the urethane ones. i think they said they get brittle faster than the rubber ones. if you do a search under alternator or bushings you should find some old posts.
you can certainly take the a/c belt off, no issues doing that, will just have the compressor sitting on top of engine doing nothing, which it sounds like is doing now. when you service the a/c if you do so, then you can reconnect belt. mark :-)
