Hi all. I am helping a friend buy a 1992 900s for $1950. It looks clean inside and out from pictures, but tell me what to look for when i go to test drive it in person. (stats: 130k mi. automatic, hatchback, nonturbo).

Leaks? Known rust spot areas of weakness. I know headliners sag but not in what years they fixed that. That kind of thing. The friend is not especially mechanical, but I can help here and there. So the simpler the better.

For example in the NG900s I would stay away from the V6 even though they can be great, they run the risk of total anihilation from a snapped timing belt. Are there gotchyas like that for a 1992 900s ? This is a non turbo, which may be a bonus for simplicity/reliability for the non mechanic.

It's also automatic which may be a bonus for not having to deal with a clutch issue. unless you guys tell me... oh no, not an automatic, those trannies were terrible in 1992! or some such esoterica known only to the lot of you classic 900 nerds! :)

So, what is known about these cars that you can initiate me for the buying process, what to look for etc.
