PCV nipple on valve cover - question

Hi everyone!
I was in the process of replacing my valve cover gasket yesterday and was removing the hoses that connect to the top of the valve cover (1985 Turbo 16 V). Well, the smaller hose, the one with the PCV valve in line, broke off nearly flush on the nipple coming out of the valve cover.
I've got another "nipple" that will relace this one, however, I am having some troule removing the old one.
Can anyone help me - how do you remove that thing? I've tried pulling, twisting, and bending. Do I have to pull straight out with a lot of force or is there a trick I don't know about? The Bently doesn't go over this one!
Thanks everyone.
Anthony
