No, its called well taken care of... Posted by turrbo [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Is an older Saab w/ reliable automatic called a Volvo?, Goyo, Sat, 7 May 2005 10:07:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The tranny in our old '90 900S lasted to about 115k miles, and was killed by a valet parking attendant driving over a barrier and cracking the case and spilling the fluid. We didn't want to pay to have it fixed, but I'm sure the car is alive and happy somewhere.
My '95 9000 Super CS has 135K miles and shifts like brand new. Even full-throttle upshifts at redline (which I don't make a habit of!) are perfect.
The 9000 ZF trannies are generally more reliable than the 900 trannies. The 900 3 speed is really a dog, the 9000 4 speed feels quite good.
The posts you read about people bad-mouthing the auto trannies are *usually* by people who drive like maniacs and don't change the fluid. Or by people who bought a car with a PO like that. If the tranny has been well maintained, it will be fine. Simple as that. I know some Saab 9k owners that have significantly modded their autos past 250 hp with no problems. I can't say the same about 900 owners, but then again I don't usually hang out on this BB.
