Help! I'm really frustrated at my 1985 900T (16v & manual tranny). I've put in three different used starters in the last couple of months, but I they are not getting rid of my starting problem.
When I turn the key to start the car, I just get a click, but the starter does not turn the engine over. For quite a while, I was able to use a screwdriver to short the solenoid wire to get it started, but now the starter only clicks when I do that too. Whatever my problem is, its only getting worse...
I've checked and cleaned the ground underneath the radiator. I've replaced the positive cable from the battery to the starter with a brand new one. I've tried using jumper cables to eliminate any bad grounds to no avail. I also cleaned and replaced the wire ends at the positive cable distribution block.
One strange thing I did notice is that the radio station presets are gone when I've sucessfully started the car (via screwdriver) in the past. In addition, my cooling fan recently blew a fuse, but I have no idea whether either of these would be related to my starting problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Karl
