I need some advice from you- My '88 900 is going to become a winter car, oh no, I can see rust now, but keep in mind there was hardly any visible rust two years ago and I live in New York, the Chloride King State. The lower "frame" rails and A-arm attachments, driver's floor pan, and so on are all solid, but it's starting to creep in from under the wheel well trim, corners of the hood, bottoms of the door (RR worst) and the usual trunk lid corners. How long do I have? 197K, hell-bent on 250 again, a little pinion or inner driver noise that has not changed or gotten louder in the last 2 years/40K and all she needs over the summer are rear pads, PS rack and the on-schedule second set of ball joints. 8 valve is a little picky at startup (this signifies everything's okay) and 34 MPG last summer; the car uses a third of a quart of oil between 7k oil changes. I could not be happier, then I bought a dark blue convertible.
How long (rustwise) do I have? I kind of built the ultimate winter car last fall and will keep her as long as she's safe to drive.
