One wheel not pulling -- no torque at all!

Today, I accidentally discovered very peculiar phenomenon:
I was changing the transmission lubricant. On the flushing stage, the instructions called for engaging the transmission for a while to let the new fluids circulate throughtout the system. So I lifted the lifted the car off the floor, and engaged the transmission.
To my great surprise, I discovered that the left (driver's) wheen is spinning just fine, but the right one (on the passenger's side) just
hangs lifelessly on its axle. It was barely spinning forward, but there
was no torgue to that wheel at all. I could stop it by hand, and even rotate it backwards, with almost no resistance at all.
Could somebody please confirm my fears that something is terribly wrong with my car? and what can it be?
I do not even know when this started. The car drives just fine.
I never could have even suspected that I have only one wheel pulling...
