I had these lights mounted on top of the bumper. To make that work I put the brackets in a vice and gave them just enough forward bend to clear the grill. The top mounting worked fine.
I stopped using them on an 82 900S after a couple of years because they put so much light up close it was harder to see farther out. If I can find clear driving lenses for them I'll try em again on a different 900 i'm driving today. One nice thing about these lights is that the covers hinge and stay on the lights, open or closed.
