I had put a new cooling fan blade on my friend's 88 or 89 NA 16v 900, and we fired it up to make sure everything worked.
Pushed the snowflake button, both fans came on, and the A/C in the car started to get nice and cold. The car ran for a while, and no overheating of the engine. All looked good, so off he drove. It all seemed to be working fine to me. I had to do this same thing on my 87 900 last summer so learned all about the cooling and A/C system thru fixing my own!
A bit later, he told me, the A/C started getting warm and the coolant temp needle started going up. That tells me the cooling fan stopped working, the engine got hot, so that switch in the radiator hose shut down the A/C.
He pulled over, and the cooling fan was not spinning...not the A/C fan, but the radiator cooling fan. He checked and the fuse was blown. Put in a new fuse, and the cooling fan still didn't work. He drove it home. He told me it was the cooling fan fuse, not the A/C fuse. I made sure to ask him which fuse it was.
He says he just put in a thermo fan switch not long ago. The one in the upper left of the radiator.

I know the A/C WON'T work if the car temp gets too hot, so that particular switch, located in the passenger side radiator hose, is working....when the car overheats - the A/C kicks off.

Is the thermo fan switch going to a fuse, or could it only be the fan motor itself blowing that fuse?

The last time I looked at the car, all fans were turning and A/C was COLD!!

Any help appreciated!
THanks -
