I assume you're talking about the liner in the well the top goes into when it's down. Saab wasn't so smart when they decided to make the rear window so it could be unzipped and opened. But they were smart enough to realize that this is the area where the top is most likely to leak and therefore made a provision for it. The well will contain any water that leaks from the back window area. We had a convertible that had a dodgey top (and no garage to keep it in) some years back. Sometimes there would be an inch of water sloshing around in the well after a rain storm. We kept a big spounge in the car to sop it out. This went on for many months without any damage to the interior until we replaced the top. As long as your top doesn't leak it shouldn't be an issue.
