OK, I would either run a low boost setup and set reduce max boost with the f and p pots in the APC box. Still set wastegate base boost to 5-6psi for better spool up.
Or you can mod(bend or grind) the retard stop on the dist control module to increase retard under boost. Then, advance base timing a bit at a time from 16 to 18 to 20(prolly too much), until knock sensor starts intruding. You will then get more initial advance but with more retard under boost. Zero cost approach, a bit klugie, but it works.
Or go with a MSD ignition with the add on boost retard control module. Then you can dial in the right timing retard from the cabin control.
You also might try one of the water injection mods, 30lb injectors with 70-100 ohm resistor in orange AMM wire, or ECU redo. Check out the performance board for all sorts of options.
