Your RFI should provoke a lot of responses. I for one just put on a set of Assurance Triple Treds. As your '90 states that the OEM fitment is 185.65.15's the alternate is 195.60.15.* I put on the 195's and they fill out the tire well much nicer and there's a slight more footprint on the ground to contribute to your G-Force acquisition. Just an FYI if you need to educate yourself about fitment and the potential for plus sizing, I would recommend going to Tire Rack on-line and cruise around.**
Back to your question. The Triple Treds are the result of the latest engineering and design from Goodyear. I just recently moved from the metro D.C. area to New England and I am proud to tell you about a good thing. In dry weather they grab and release with firm sidewall stability. In the wet/rain/tsunami they displace the water on the outboard side extremely well. They are directional. The center rib on the tire is consumed by linear sipes that stick to ice and assist in channeling snow away. I love them for sure. They are not the best in any of the disciplines like dry, wet, ice, and snow but in my humble opinion, they are the best all-season!
On a different thread posting above, there was a discussion about negative camber. I participate in that concept thus it will affect the overall mileage that you get from your tires. Traditionally, the wear out quotient accelerates exponentially when you force greater resistance on the tires. But with these new Triple Treds I should see at least 40k on them. The manufacturer claims up to around 80k.in normal driving. I'm finally coming around that things have changed i.e., I used to expect about 20k-25k miles out of a set of tires. For me, those types of returns equate to greater friction, traction, and handling. Today's rubber/silicon compounds are changing everything.
I've warned out high performance rubber over the last 22 plus years and have used most of them e.g., Pirelli, Goodyear, Gislavad, Sumotomo, Yokahama, and Blizzaks. They ALL are fine tires! I just prefer the Goodyear’s. Just recently I pulled off a set of Gatorbacks in lieu for an "All season - high performance" tire for my '89 Turbo Conv.
Sorry for the rant ......
* The aspect ratio of a tire is like this: Example/ 195.60.15. The 195 represents the width of the tire; the 60 represents a percentage of the width but applied to the distance from the edge of the rim to the top of the tire; and 15 is the rim diameter.
** I am not a tire salesman nor do I work for a tire company. My opinions are of my own and they do not represent anybody or any company.
Peace,
Zoots
