What's inside your driver's door is not a lock solenoid even though it looks like one. It is a 3-wire switch that simply sends a control signal to the lock control that is located above the passenger's side air duct as Tushy mentioned. If you loosen the screw on the left side of the air duct you can gently bend it down to access the module.
If your door switch has failed then turning the key in either direction won't activate any of the power locks. If any of them work then it is likely a problem with one of the solenoids themselves or with the control module. You should be able to pull either pretty cheaply at a junkyard or watch for them on Ebay.
