Turbo Boost Gauge

I purchased my first saab last year, it is a 1991 saab turbo convertible, and I have a question about the turbo gauge. It is an automatic transmission, and I am wondering what normal operation of the turbo should be? The needle goes into the yellow about 3/4 at most under hard acceleration. It has never gotten close to the red. I am assuming that it should not go into the red at all, but I figured it would go all the way into the yellow? Does this seem normal? The turbo seems to work good, although I thought it would be much faster than it actually is. Maybe I am expecting too much out of the 4cyl engine, or maybe I need to always use premium fuel, currently I use low or mid grade fuel. Any thoughts?? Thanks
