About the only way to check out an old radiator is to pull it and have it flow tested at the shop. IMHO, a high mileage saab (over 100K) that runs hot with a new thermostat and thermoswitch is in need of a new radiator.
I've used Mercedes coolant on my 87 900T since I changed out the second radiator in the car at around 200K...running 275K now and the coolant is the same color as when I put it in. Hmm, maybe 5 years is time to change it, BUT I don't have ANY apparent corrosion in the thermostat elbow or on the thermostat (I changed it last year on GP) nor do I have voltage to ground above .4v (virtually zero on the DVOM) so I'll just keep the Mercedes coolant, thank you!.
