I moved to New Braunfels 1 year ago but the rest minus a few years was spent in Houston (I also worked at the dealership on I-59 south and beltway 8 in both sales and service)...

My experience from the list of mechanics on this site:

don't go to Jack's in south houston, they wouldn't take credit or checks had to pay only with cash. Very unprofessional I thought, and very shady.

The owner is Swedish and a family friend of mine takes her 1997 9000CS here and they fixed an A/C problem and auto-tranny issue that the dealer couldn't (while I worked there, we did put her in a free loaner car while trying to fix it though). The techs were too new (at the dealer)and not trained on the older systems also the one tech that is a master wouldn't mess with it. Also, I believe "Drew in Houston" from the performance, NG900, and general boards, a good friend of mine, has his 2001 9-3SE there getting some tranny and suspension work right now. I tried calling to confirm this but he didn't answer.

Very knowledgable but a small shop... the guy put in new ABS system in my 1990 C900T and new ball joints and CV joints. reasonably priced I thought. Not very timely manner however.

And one that is not on the list and I used exclusively before working at the dealer (membership had it's priviledges, use of shop and access to master tech that, while grouchy and opinionated and knew I'd never leave him alone if he didn't answer my questions, humored me and/or felt sorry for me) I thought to be very fair and always worked with me. I.E.- if I had issues he would diagnose and tell me what needed to be done now and what could wait and also found alternatives as far as parts and pricing was concerned. The owner/mechanic (Saab Master Tech), however, didn't do this with my family friend with the 9000 from above, so, who knows.
