Year after year I'm getting tired of fighting to keep the A/C system running. In 2001 the A/C stopped. You all know the routine. Charge with dye and freon, drive a week to circulate, and get out your yellow glasses. Repair whats wrong, in this case the condenser, draw a vacuum and recharge at the time with r-12. Cost $500. In 2002, had the tranny rebuilt, and the jerks had the compressor hanging by the manifold hose into the cavity. After the rebuild, the A/C stopped. Chorus: You all know the routine. Charge with dye & freon, drive a week to circulate, get out your yellow glasses. Repair whats wrong, in this case the Orings at the compressor, draw a vacuum, and recharge at the time with r12. Cost $2 for the orings, $600 for the routine. Who really thinks about turning on the A/C in the winter time to keep the system lubricated? Not me. In 2003, spring time, had a new coil and amplifier installed. Few weeks later turned on the A/C, it stopped. Chorus: need I say more. In this situation, the receiver/dryer was bent? I hope the mechanic didn't do it thinking I was going to come back there to get the A/C fixed! Orings strike again. Cost $30 orings & rec/drier, got off cheap right-wrong, the chorus $500. In 2004, always seems like the first hot week of the year, turned on A/C, it stopped. Chorus: This time the manifold hose had a tear and leaked. Whew, luckily in 2003, I converted to 134, since I was starting to feel remorse for mother nature due to mechanical mishaps, not to mention the price of r12 was starting to skyrocket. No matter, wether r12 or 134, the chorus & routine $400. Hhhmmm, that's right, the manifold hose does cost more than orings. It's 2005, June, do I have to turn on the A/C? You betcha..it hit 90 degrees this week. No F----- A/C. I got super help from you all here on this board, but it 's time to play the chorus.
