. . . when i purchased my 900T convertible it exhibited the symtoms your are experiencing. Wasn't the cooling system that was at fault, rather the ignition timing had been set incorrectly (too advanced) and the vacuum advance module had failed (no retard under boost). Goin up hills caused it to run at ~3/4 on the gauge. Since setting everything correctly it never gets much above 1/2.
Worth a check.
