doozy. Basically, the car "acts" flooded every time I start it....even cold in the morning. It will do everything but start.....I always confuse the terms "crank" and "turn over'.....but it goes and goes and goes feeling like it will start and doesn't. I figured out (don't ask how) that if I pull that fuel pump fuse, it still goes on and on for about 8 to 10 seconds, then starts...but starts like it's missing bigtime. Horrible sound like there's one cylinder at work. I then rush to push fuse in and it stays on..........missing all the time.....after which I put the car in reverse without touching the gas pedal (I park in a lot that's level)...and in 3 or 4 seconds, it's purring like a kitten. And does so while driving. I go somewhere - one hour or ten hours -- and same scenario repeats again, complete with the overwhelming gas smell and the "missing." I'm stumped. Interesting you'd mention that it might be wired wrong....I've only let mechanics touch that part, so it could be true. But hasn't been touched in a while (I can only do plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor...which I did today).
Thanks for your interest...hope you can figure something out. I have some big medical problems that often require an on-the-spot trip to the hospital or my doctor, and the car is not too reliable these days....
thanks again,
