annual clean and wax over the weekend

Once a year I give my car paint the deep cleaning treatment and waxing, followed by periodic waxing throughout the year as needed. The paint is a quality lacquer from one of the chain paint shops, a dark blue with subtle metalic flakes. Looks real pretty when shined up. The proceedure begins with hand rubbing the surface with a scratch removal formula, in this instance the Kit brand, which has a fine abrasive. I've tried buffing compound, but they're a bit too gritty. Perhaps if I had a car with serious paint damage from neglect, then a buffing compound would be the first step, followed by a finer scratch remover such as Kit. As is, the Kit stuff works wonders on my car removing accumulated wax, dirt and dulled paint, without scratching. For added lubrication and cleaning while using the Kit formula, I used a citrus spray cleaner (purchased at the local 99 cent store, similar to Formula 409) at the same time. Then with the Kit formula dried and still on the car, I applied a liquid wax (Maguires) and worked that in. After that dried up I removed it, hand buffed, then applied a final glaze wax and buffed that. Took me two days, but it looks awesome and is good to go for another year.
