I suppose it has been the 85 which garnerd the most attention about that problem, but my first SAAB - 82 N/A - had a horrible wiring decay problem, mostly the white and yellow power leads going from the starter/solenoid to the relay panel. The starter in that older model is under the exhaust manifold, so that's a lot of insulation to go bad. I noticed it when replacing a bad starter and decided to clean the nasty grimy wires and harness covering. The thin rubber material over the starter wires pulled apart with any amount of cleaning action and revealed the decayed insulation beneath. That whole group of wires inside the harness leading up to the fuse box was a mess of decayed insulation, leaked green coolant and oil. The coolant could have come from a number of places along that wiring route, while the oil was mostly along the front, probably from the distributor o-ring leaking. I did my best to remove the mess and wrap the wires, and never had an elec failure or problem. I have seen what a 900 looks like after catching fire from a harness problem, so that potential problem should be a concern to every 900 owner. Interestingly, my next 82T 900 had an engine in worse shape (leaks, mess) than the first 82, but the harness wiring insulation is still sound.
