When I swapped from 82 solid rotor to 87 vented, I initially switched just the 87 calipers and installed them on the former 82 spindle/hub assembly. With the vented 87 rotor in place and trying to install the 87 calipers on the 82 spindle/hub, I noticed the inside of the rotor surface was rubbing against the calipers. Clearly I needed the spindle/hub from the 87 too. Now, when you say they must have given you a new hub, do you mean just the interior hub, or do you mean the entire hub assembly, which includes the spindle as well? By spindle I mean the steering knuckle, which includes the ball joint connections and the steering arm where the tie rod connects. The easiest on them is replacing only the inner hub, which is what the brake rotor and wheel is bolted to. If it is just the inner hub they replaced, then that answers a question I've had about the mis-fit from the 82 amd 87 spindle assembly. If it's just the inner hub they replaced, then that is the part that is a different size between the two years, and not the outer spindle on which the caliper bolts. A size difference means SAAB had to engineer and make cast molds for that new part, so which would be easiest to modify? Sounds like just the hub, to compensate for the thicker rotor.
