1987 900t yet again the front parking brake lever froze up. I tried the FAQ solution of the bushing kit, but for the second time in a row that solution failed. The lever was SO frozen that it would not come out of the piston, and instead the piston came out of the body past the rubber seal as I tried to get the whole thing apart. So instead of a $20 repair I had to replace the caliper for $90. The worst thing is having the car up on stands for three days waiting for the caliper to arrive. The question is: what specific steps are best to TAKE THE CALIPER APART without ruining it, once the parking brake lever is frozen in place? and - how ofter do people "service" these calipers to keep the lever lubed so hopefully it does not freeze? What steps do you follow to service them?
