The sound of air releasing is not normal for the APC system when it detects the onset of knock. It only makes me think you have a leaky boot somewhere in your induction plumbing.
What octane is your "regular" gas? If APC detects the onset of knock, it will reduce the max boost level by opening the wastegate, but you shouldn't hear anything. FYI, with my (retired) '86 900T, I would boost to the edge of yellow/red with 87 octane, this is at 5000 feet...
