I had a '89, and have a '91 900T Convert' that I've driven for over 250k miles since I bought it used. (324k on it now) Other than the usual mechanical issues, I'd agree that the state of the top is critical since their VERY EXPENSIVE to replace correctly. My '89 had a cheap replacement-top that I was never happy with. The '91 top is still original, but it's seen it's last summer. I've gotten quotes of $1500-2000 to re-do the top properly; so I never did. The tops drain into the vinyl-lined well behind the seats and then drain into the body and out the bottom drains. Look for rust and/or blocked drains. When the drains block, my rocker-panels turn into submarine ballast tanks. Also water can leak onto the floor-boards. you have to clean-out the drains in the body on a regular basis to prevent water from collecting.
I got about 180k miles out of the first turbo, and the second's now-failed at 325k; though my dealer says you usually get 120k typically...the oil MUST BE CHANGED regularily to preserve the turbo. In 250k miles, I've only once had the suspension bushing redone once, and the water-pump replaced (though it really didn't need one), brake pads and 6-rotors. Engine and trans have never been apart nor required servicing. You just can't let the servicings go, oil changes, belts and hoses have to be replaced.
