A/C system is for me a must and I would repair it at all times but it can be really expensive to repair if both that A/C manifold hose and maybe the compressor is bad.
I guess in your case you need to figure out how much it is worth to you and then get a belt put on and see if that is the only thing right now.
An old dry A/C belt can create quite a bit of chirping so if you are lucky that will be the only thing you need.
One tip. Grab the thicker hose coming out of the compressor (upper hose) and slightly twist it back and forth. If it moves around the aluminum pipe going into the compressor it is bad or going bad and will leak soon.
If the A/C system is already empty and you can twist that hose, you need a new A/C hose manifold and a recharge of freon to begin with.
That work will probably run you about 3 to $400.00 at a shop.
