Follow-up: cooling fan problem solved... (long) Posted by swede-murphy [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
sort of. Thanks to the board, the great search engine, and Bently. I followed all of the suggestions, and eventually replaced the thermofan switch, the thermostat (both 82 degrees), left (driver's side) fan, cooling fan relay, cooling fan delay relay, and the AC relay. The original problem was that the fan would start as soon as the key was turned; after diagnosing (and replacing) the bad thermoswitch, I replaced the left (driver's side) fan because it repeatibly blew the fuse in position 25. I then cleaned the ground on the radiator cross member, and it worked, except after a couple of cycles, the fuse continued to blow. I unhooked the right (passenger's side) fan, and everything has been working just fine ever since - now I just need to replace the right (passenger's side) fan, but the car (89 TC) is running cool. I have to add, a good spouse is good to have -- I tried to disonnect the left (driver's side) fan plug, worked on it a half hour, and my wife, who doesn't even like cars, reached down and un-hooked it in a heartbeat; seems like her arms are much more flexible than mine.
I probably replaced nmore that I needed, but cooling/AC fan problems are complicated and difficult to isolate.
