There's a wiring harness that runs from the fuse box to the driver door. In that harness is a three prong connector. The most common failure is in the wiring to that connector from the fuse box. Take a look at those wires, on my '87 it was very obvious from the broken insulation where the problem was. The locks took a year to completely fail on my car, I think the broken wire was intermittently making and breaking the connection. Inside the fuse box, I spliced in a "new" harness I took from the junkyard. All locks work fine now. I finally fixed them five years after they stopped working.
