The normal answer is to clean off the engine really good, then keep an eye on it. If the leak is really small, it's not easy to see until it has time to collect dirt & turn black. By then it has blown all over the place.
The gear switch for the upshift light would have wiring coming from the right side of the tranny, somewhere below the distributor. Yours may simply have a bolt plugging that hole??
But there's a cover or 2 on that side of the tranny, each has a gasket that can be replaced.
If it's coming from the tranny input shaft or the crankshaft, it runs down inside the bellhousing & drips out a small hole down there underneath the flywheel.
Sounds like its too slow to watch your oil level drop in either the engine or tranny??
