1 a car alternator system is NOT a battery charger. It is barely able to keep up with the cars loads and if your driving at night it will definately not charge the battery.
2. To get a good charge on a weak battery you need sufficient voltage and amperage to do the charge. Most automatic car chargers will charge between 10 amps to a discharged battery to less than one amp when the battery is fully charged. This is what is needed if the battery is discharged but otherwise OK. If the battery is bad (ie even if fully charged it is below 13 volts, you need a new battery, but you must find out why it fails.
You did not describe how you jumped the car are yopu putting the cables from battery teminal to battery terminal?
If you are this will not start the car is the ground wire for battery or engine is bad. This is why you were asked this before. Otherwise the voltage regulator may be shot so the alternator is putting out less than 13.5 to 14 volts which means the battery will not be charged. 12 volts is nominal voltage, and a good battery will be higher than that.
To try to jump the car connect the positive from the good battery to the positive of your battery and the ground from the negative of the good battery to the engine block. If the car starts it;s a problem with the engine ground.
