If your primary ignition wires (the big thick ones going from spark plug to distrib) are not putting the spark from the distributor into the right places (each plug) at exactly the right times, because the timing is off, yes removing one plug could make it run.

I would double and triple check these items (again, because I have done this...everyone else on the list will laugh but I did it and it was so simple.
1. Is each spark plug wire going to its proper home on the distrib. cap? It's pretty easy to switch those around. Double check this first.
2. Is each spark plug wire firmly atttached to each proper spark plug? Mine are numbered to keep us straight.
3. Is the distributor cap on properly? Did you maybe put it on 180 degrees out? It's possible to do this. (You know how I know this, too.)
3. If you rotated the distrib. in its mounting even a quarter inch, you will have changed the timing by at least 5 degrees. That will make the car run very differently.

Double, then triple check. Items 1 & 2 before considering 3. #2 spark plug wire goes to left (US Driver's side) top spot on distrib. on my 85T. Cant read the rest. Yell if you do not have "proper connection" verification by picture or manual or whatever and I'll take a closer look at mine by pulling the cover over the plugs.
