...file a groove down the side of the threads, or two or three grooves, making it look similar to an actual tap. The groove is to clear the chips and let it clean and cut better, as it won't bind up on any material it removes. Also use WD40 or oil or kero or something to lube it.
Use this groove-down-the-side trick on bolts, any time you need a tap but can't get one. (For light duty only, cleaning up threads or tapping into sheet metal or aluminum or something.)
Very creative to think of using an old sensor, by the way.
