There is a very good repair manual for Saabs put out by a company called Bentley: buy it now! :-) There is a version for the 900 with your engine (16 valves).
Next, if you are sure your battery is well charged, and you have intermittent starting problems AND you have changed the starter, then I would suspect the ignition switch. Remove the center console between the seats to access the wires to the ignition switch, then, with your new Bentley, see which ones to connect in order to bypass the switch to confirm/rule out the switch.
It is easy to go from F to A with this car. Kudos to you for diving in and tackling the problem. Saab 900 is mostly easy to work on. Just take care of transmission by changing its lube every year if a 5 speed stick.
