My ghetto repair apparentley has worked, and I'm no longer leaking oil from the "oil pan" (a.k.a. drain pan, a.k.a. oil sump) seal found on auto tranny cars. Used a gasket maker called The Right Stuff.
Here's the background for those interested:
http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/900/index.html?bID=297810
1) To fix it, let the oil drain overnight.
2) Loosened a couple bolt that held the "oil pan" to the transmission. The pan won't come off, just becomes slightly loose at the seam.
3) Cleaned the area VERY well with a degreaser. Over and over.
4) Using a screwdriver and twisting, I was able to open the seam slightly and press some Right Stuff in the crack. I focused the leak area. Let that set for 15 minutes.
5) Next, place a heavy bead along the entire seam. Smooth in place.
6) Retighten the loosened bolts
7) Let sealant cure overnight before adding oil.
Been dry as a bone for 2 weeks. I've also used The Right Stuff to reseal the tranny pan (instead of replacing the gasket) and have no leaks there either. Very good product.
Thanks to this board for all the tips. We'll be selling this beauty soon for a more family-friendly RX300, but I'm disappointed that the Lexus boards aren't more technical. Hopefully it wouldn't be as much of an "adventure" as the Saab....
Anyone have an idea on how much I can get for a 94 conv auto with 120K, but in very good condition (new top, no mechanical issues, clean interior)?
