If it is true that the hydraulic pump is so worn that it cannot maintain pressure (and I doubt it...generally the seals in various regulators or somesuch are the leakers) it should show up in a pressure test during driving the car. You may, however, need to take it to a transmission shop that specializes in this.
About the only hydraulic pump failure I know of on the BW37 trans is the broken tangs on the torque converter. Then you don't go at all. There is also the cold trans no go which is indicative of a worn out trans...I had one that would start/move the car when cold but in second would just flare, wouldn't pull the hill by my house, and then when/if I got enough speed in first to pull the hill, at the top if I stopped it wouldn't move. Once the trans got warm, however, it shifted fine and started fine. Once I almost got whacked when it wouldn't pull away in the morning and I replaced the trans. If that's a happy ending... My point is that if it won't work well once it gets warmed up, something is wrong inside, perhaps a clogged passage or pressure regulator spring broken.
