Hi!

My '86 900 Aero (T16) is in what I thought was base boost. After a good deal of testing, I think that he APC-system actually is working, and that the problem is knocking. What might cause this? The symptoms I have had is:
1. Turbo boosted into red before, but suddenly it only went 2/3 into yellow, and the next trip it boosted only a bit more than halfway. Now it has dropped to around halway into yellow.

2. I have the occasional bluish (smells of burnt oil) smoke from the tailpipe, turborelated I guess.

3. After changing some vacuumhoses and a valve (I think it is called bypass-valve, situated on the intake-hose just before the turbo, with a vacuumhose connected also) it runs smoother, but I still have a kind of surging when idling. It is as if it only fires on three. Auxiliary air valve? It is a very early '86, produced in the end of '85, so I don't have the AIC-valve. New plugs, wires and distributer/rotor.

4. The APC-solenoid clicks when ignition on, and when brakes on. When solenoid hotwired, or hose to wastegate disconnected, I get more boost, but I think I can hear knocking. Not sure how knocking sounds.

5. Today, I couldn't get the click from the APC-solenoid at first, but when fiddling with the cruise-control buttons it chattered and after that it clicked as it is supposed to do again. Can it be cruise-control induced base boost after all? Or is it just a coincidendce that the switch hung itself up for some time just today?

Help! :-)
