It's also possible that the ignition amp has died Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Thu, 1 Sep 2005 07:54:26 In Reply to: 86 900t won't start, bill in WI, Thu, 1 Sep 2005 07:43:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The hall effect sensor is the head of the chain - without it, the ignition amplifier won't know to trigger the spark.
And, if the fuel injection computer (ECU) doesn't get a pulse signal from the ignition amplifier, it won't allow the fuel pump to run. This is assuming that the car hasn't been cobbled to try to bypass that fuel pump safeguard.
Often, the connector on the side of the distributor becomes brittle, breaks away, and doesn't make contact with the hall effect sensor signal wires in the distributor. You'll want to check to see if that's loose. Wire ties work wonders if it's not too far gone.
And, sometimes, the hall effect sensor in the distributor dies.
