continued alarm woes

I posted several weeks ago about losing my remote key fob for the alarm in my '93 900T conv. and received a reply about changing out the chips in the system. The car's been in the shop for body work since then. Someone posted that they bought the "chips" on Ebay. I ended up buying an alarm "brain and remote" that are said to be working(haven't gotten it yet). Now I need to figure out what to do with it. I assume I could have the chips taken out of the new "brain" and installed in the brain in my car, and that the remote (that came with the brain) will then work. From there, according to the 2 Saab dealers I've spoken to, I can then have a 2d remote programmed to the first remote so that I don't get stuck in this situation again. Where is the brain located so that I know where to look when I get my car back? Is it feasible for me to change out the chips; if not, to whom should I take it-- a mechanic or an alarm shop? Any help is greatly appreciated.
