Ok, to the c900 vert makes its first land journey 1500 miles throughout the finger lakes and to toronto from boston. It perfroms well as always. Head gaskets been done like 10,000 miles ago, and it uses no coolant...
400 miles into the ride i smell oil. I open the hood, and its obvious that the cars been spitting oil out of the top of the fill cover. Its a all over the side of the motor, a bit on the alternator, ect.
I check the oil level - its just been changed and is if anything, a 1/4 of an inch abouve the full line on the stick. It's not frothy, the car hasnt used any coolant , and the oil looks like the proper visosity for a hot day. The oil doesent smell like gas either.
Thinkin' cracked piston - broken ring, I take the cover off and idle the car with my ear to the dipstick hole. No chuga-chuga noise like a blown pision or ring (at least not obviously)
It appeared that the car only did this when it was kinda hot and i had the ac on and was doing 75, ( its a manual so only 3 grand rmp )
I wiped everything down, kept it under 65mph, tried to lay off the turbo and kept going. Sometimes the car would go 400 miles without doing it, sometimes it did it again. Car is definately leaking / blowing the oil out of the top of the fill cap as i can see....
Blow by?
Motor has 135,000 on it , and hasnt been thrashed or pinged.
im off to run a compression check, but id love to hear some input on this one.
Got me 1100 more miles home thoght...
Andrew
