Most likely, the fuel gauge sending unit in the fuel tank has fallen apart. Replacement is not difficult...access is under the floor in the back. The sending unit is under the smaller access panel on the right. You'll need to remove the fuel pump (larger panel on the left side) to reach in and get out the remains of the old unit if it has fallen apart as they usually do.
Of course, you need to be careful to avoid sparks, etc. when working back there with the fuel tank open. Disconned the battery, ground yourself, etc.
