first scrupulously clean all surfaces. use gasket remover for rough stuff, sire and brush and acetone for next pass, finish with denatured alcohol.

order of assembly.
timing chain cover, rear seal and cover plate.

loctite 518 on chain cover and water pump, i use "the right stuff" for rear plate but 518 fine there too.

next is engine to transmission. be sure engine is balanced perfectly or you will gouge the gasket. having two friends to ease it into place square also a good idea. i use gaskacinch as a prep on both surfaces including gasket. ( simply a gooesurface prep and gasket tacker) put gasket in place and use a small bead of ultra grey in the end gasket grooves. let it tack up for a while 30 minutes max. no other sealants on that, the gasket is precoated. carefully align and mate it to trans then torque it. the new gaskets are metal but i prefer the old composition style so that i can use the two bolts behind flywheel. in that case i use permatex 3000.

now you can do the head. no sealants suggested but again i use gaskacinch to prep all surfaces. get two long carriage bolts or extra head bolts and cut the heads off for alignment. you may want to do the exhaust first. i use coppercoat to fill any irregularities. if you are serious about a good fit have the manifold reground square.

for intake i use....yes... gaskacinch. it rocks for paper gaskets.
