Need Help with my Son’s 84 900 Project – Hesitation and loss of power.
I’m new here but have searched this board and have learned a lot but I really need some direction.
My 16 yr old son was given a 1984 900 8V non-turbo, 225,000 mi. The car was in need of much attention.
With almost $1500 in parts invested we have what we think could be a good first car for him.
The problem we now have is that after the car is driven for somewhere between 1-5 miles the engine begins to miss and looses power. Letting the engine cool down for a while seems to cure the problem for a bit but the problem start in again with in a mile or two.
Fuel pump is loud but doesn’t really sputter or miss when the loss of power occurs.

I am looking for a used fuel pump since I think the one we have will not last much longer.
I thought another possibility might be the Hall Effect sensor is failing when it heats up.
And there is an item rubber mounted on the inside of the left fender that has fuel lines and electrical wires that is buzzing like crazy. I think this is called CIS Frequency valve? Could this be the problem?

I’ve replace Distributor Cap, Rotor, Plugs and plug wires.
We also replaced majority of vacuum lines (to correct engine idle hunting).
We replace Pre fuel pump (to fix engine stalling on hard left turn problem)

In addition we’ve replaced the following:
Clutch, pressure plate, bearings, slave and master clutch cylinders, clutch line.
Brake master cyl, front calipers and rotors.
Shocks
Front wheel bearings and right front axle.
Heater control valve
Head liner, Front seat springs.
And the list goes on.

If I could go back in time I would not have started this project but one can only look forward. I’ve got a lot of time and money invested and he’s only driven it to school 4 or 5 times. We’re getting frustrated. If any one can help I’d greatly appreciate it.
Not sure where to start.
BTW, we’re in Apex NC.

Thanks,
Brian Kelly
