I orinally thought That i had a defective piston in my convertible. On closer examination - it seems that the top of the piston screws into a piece of soft metal, which is connected to the top. So i figure - no problem, ill just go and unscrew one from another beat up vert, and screw it to the top of my piston, then pin it in place, and all will be good. Except apparently the earlier models have the piston going right into the top hinge withoug this part. Lovely.
Apparently, upon talking to the convertible top guy down the street, this happens often. His solution is replacing the whole piston. That seems like a ton of work, and if i could find a used pison, id just unscrew that pivot. Apparently they are difficult to find.
Does anyone know of a solution to this besides replacing the piston? Is this part availiable?
Second of all WHY is this happening? It must be starting to happen more frequently if the vert top guy is starting to encounter it. and it cannot happen on the earlier verts because that part does not exist.
Any idea if it has a part number? Help?
