I found gas to be a good cleaner. But with the prices these days, solvent might be cheaper. Also assuming your talking about the eng. oil cooler. you might be able to just drop it out the bottom. I did it the long way at first. Removing the bumper and lights and what not.
As far as I know it had never been cleaned on my car 85 900 with 288k miles. What do you know the car runs a little cooler. Go figure right?
