Fuel tank sender problems...

We had the sender in our fuel tank fail a while back, and could hear the parts clunking about in the tank. When I replaced the pump recently I removed the bits, and found the weird tubular sender had simply fallen apart - not that surprising, seeing as how the aluminum body seemed to be just lightly pressed into the plastic top.
I've been stipping our older Saab prior to having it towed away, and removed the sensor to use in our newer C900. I couldn't help notice that it seemed pretty flimsy - when I got it out, the aluminum tube seemed to have alread worked its way almost halfway off the plastic top, so failure seemed imminent there too.
I am thinking about putting a screw or two in at the top, to positive hold the aluminum tube onto the top before I install it. Can anyone think of any reason why I shouldn't?
