Hi,
On a very long road trip, my car started to skip beats, especially when going up hills. Bucking and pretty much refusing to move. Flooring it would get it past that, or being very very light on the gas pedal would help. I noticed a whining/slight buzzing sound coming from the fuel pump area. Eventually the problems seemed to go away, after being very light on the gas pedal for a long time.
It was also pretty hot and I had been driving for about 5 hours that day. After that I tried avoiding gasoline with ethanol in it thinking that might be a problem with the heat.

Dying fuel pump? How long might such a thing last before giving out completely? My car made it back home OK, another 22 hours or so of driving.
