I assume your car is an auto and that they refer to the transmission oil cooler thermostat that is mounted below right cooling fan.
Saab was experimenting with that thermostat for a couple of years (87-88, I think) but decided to drop it in later years.
100% of the thermostats (or hoses) started to leak prematurely and the best option is to remove the whole setup and run two new transmission oil cooler hoses from trans to cooler using heat/pressure and oil resistant bulk hose and good quality hose clamps (2 at each end).
To do that operation though you need to be handy using a high speed grinder to split the metal sleeve on the old hoses without cutting through any electrical wires or damaging the pipe fitting that stays in the cooler.
Or you could remove the hose fittings too and work on the bench (a little bit more work).
