do a search back on "ignition/shift console" for discussion on making that tool for easy console removal. A matter of making a three prong socket out of a spare 1/2 or 12 mm socket. Even if removing just the ignition/lock assembly, it's easier if you can roll the shift console around on it's axis. Also, if you want to keep your original key (if it's in good shape and not about to twist in half like mine did) you can just rebuild the ignition barrel assembly by using internal parts from another assembly. It's not that difficult to figure out if you have small tools and a magnifying lens light. Even just a bright light and reading glasses. With age, the internal tabs? (I forget the correct part terminology) wear from use to the point where they don't retract fully when the key is inserted to allow the internal core to turn inside the exterior barrel. All of those tabs are numbered and are standard sizes, but arranged differently according to each key. As long as you keep that tab sequence, regardless where those tabs come from, your old key will work. When I did my tab replacement, it was obvious what the problem was when looking at the worn tabs next to the replacement parts. A good guess as to why they wore out to beging with is because of lack of lubrication inside the assembly. Also the previous owner had obviously dumped a lot of sugary drinks down the console and gummed up not only the key, but the gear assembly below it.
