1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
About a week ago my driver’s side window on my ’89 900 T Conv broke. Once my insurance agency agreed to replace it I had scheduled the appointment with Safelight Auto Glass Repair.
After finally getting somebody out after a week of waiting, the (At first) reasonably competent technician showed up and replaced the window. As he was completing the job I was just heading out to the airport and away for a few days.
I came home this past Tuesday evening and went out to the garage to take my joy for a ride. First, I noticed that the window wouldn’t go up all of the way. I had to open the door and help it the last inch or so. Then, while cruising out on the Blvd I noticed an unusually loud road noise coming into the cabin. My first though was that the guy removed the plastic insulation cover on the inside of the door. Anyway, the story continues –
The original tech and his supervisor showed up this afternoon in response to my complaint. First, they used my can of silicon spray to lube up both tracks on the inside and the rubber door lining. Well, that remedied the actuation for sure. Now the window went up too far. Go figure! I told the guys about the road noise and asked the tech if he removed the plastic lining on the inside. He said yes, he did that it basically broke off and crumpled into his hand when he removed it. All I could say was…WTF?
Here’s the question – Can I get a replacement OEM plastic liner for the inside window or should I go after market or even get creative? The car is an ’89 like I stated before and really don’t want to wait a week or more for the part. Do you think a 5-10mm thick plastic sheet would do the trick or just get some felt and glue it on?
Thanks in advance
