I specifically do not double-clutch reverse because when the gears are moving (reverse is not unless you're rolling) they'll grind. My 900s will grind if I double-clutch reverse, but they will not if I wait until the internals have stopped moving or are moving very slowly.
I engage reverse when the car is just barely moving, backward, just enough to rotate the input enough to mesh up the non-synchronized gears. It's an advantage of having to park in a driveway where I pull in, coast to a stop, engage reverse as soon as the car starts rolling back very slowly, and then park down at the bottom.
I've demonstrated that fresh gear box oil dramatically helps shift quality. I was having problems with first, second, reverse, and serious problems with fifth, then changed the fluid, and now I only have occasional troble with first (worn synchro, I'm still in the process of wearing the right mesh into it) and reverse (typical of the gearbox).
If this doesn't help, you may need to investigate the "bracket trick."
